vita+apps calm is an app that combines elements of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques that can help you reduce your stress and that may improve your resilience for future stressful situations.

HOW IT WORKS

The human brain is wired to react to threatening situations by triggering the “stress response” which in its first alarm phase includes the well-known flight or fight response. In the alarm phase, your body reacts and prepares to flee or fight by raising your heart rate, respiration and blood pressure and stopping all non-essential body functions such as digestion and cell repair. Mostly triggered by fear, this is a useful trait that can help us avoid or survive true emergencies, but it’s often inappropriate for the modern day stressors of traffic, long work hours and hectic schedules. In subsequent phases, we are supposed to either remove ourselves from the threatening situation or adapt to the new stressor so that our body can begin to reset. This is an important recovery stage that let’s us learn from the threat and move forward into our lives. In today’s stressful world however, many find that their stress response is constantly being triggered which can lead to a state of constant worry and even physical strain. vita+apps calm can help you to manage the issues that stress you by using system that allows you to record your concerns, fears and worries and let these float away. Studies have shown that the simple act of writing our worries out can help stop rumination and release us from the grips of fear so that we might allow ourselves to recover.
